threesomes are really in right now i guess! Challengers has been taking the culture by storm with its sexy tennis menage a trois plot and iconic score. who doesn’t want to find yourself in between two pieces of hot fresh deliciousness? which is exactly what i did two weeks ago when i found myself eating two of the best tuna melts i’ve had in recent memory! both are from two revamped diners with amazing teams backing them and it’s been so nice to see new delis and diners coming up.
between these two sandwiches it was…love-love…get it? TENNIS! ;)
let’s get to the match!
S&P - this one is Art - the champion set up for success. he’s the crowd favorite and he aims to please…
S&P is a fairly new place and instantly iconic deli from the Court Street Grocers team, taking over Eisenberg’s Sandwich Shop in Flatiron. Their tuna melt is a perfectly made classic on rye with ooey gooey american cheese and served with a gorgeous pickle. my boyfriend and i got this tuna melt, an equally delicious patty melt (their veggie patty is different than what i imagine and it was so unexpected and good!), and i got the supreme pleasure of taking part in my boyfriend’s first potato knish. it was so good i forgot to take a pic of it, so you just get to see the last bite.
also 10/10 for their spot on decor (like the below signed picture from the cast of The Nanny aka the best tv show of all time).
Montague Diner - this tuna melt is absolute Patrick vibes!!!
just like Patrick, it has a weird serve (served on sourdough instead of rye), seems like the working man when he actually comes from a rich background (Montague Diner is a revamped diner in Brooklyn Heights from the same team behind Ft. Greene favorite, Margot) and has been hard to get out of my head (clearly)!
SET POINT!
(they also serve a special which is this GIANT grilled cheese with a knife in it and a bottle of chilled red. i can’t think of anything more romantic than splitting that with a loved one)
ADVANTAGE!
just like tashi duncan, i was the real winner here. you can be a winner too if you go to one of these spots, grab a tuna melt and sing along to this iconic bop while replacing the word “maneater” with “melteater”!
big kiss, like, subscribe, share, yadda yadda, you get it.
